I romanzi della saga /The novels

1. Hyperion (1989)
2. La caduta di Hyperion/The Fall of Hyperion (1990)
3. Endymion (1995)
4. Il risveglio di Endymion/The Rise of Endymion (1997)

più 3 racconti/ 3 stories more:

1. Orphans of the Helix (racconto)
2. Remembering Sin  (racconto)
3. The Death of a Centaur  (racconto)

The Death of a Centaur".
The Hyperion Cantos make a tetralogy of novels by science fiction written by Simmons between 1989 and 1997. Although often classified as belonging to the genus saga fiction space opera is considered, among the works of  "epic" fiction, one of the most important - of the late twentieth century - so that the first novel in the series won the Hugo and Locus awards in 1990.
Regarding the connection between the various books, Simmons explained that the plot of "Hyperion" could also end with the first novel, but as the story of Hyperion ended quite abruptly, leaving many unsolved mysteries, "The Fall of Hyperion "answers questions and provides an ending to the story. The other two novels take place in a period of three hundred years later than the time of the first two, with new players, but the events of the previous novels provide an important backdrop to the plot. In addition to the four major novels, there also exists a short story, "Orphans of the Helix" of 1999, to be placed 481 years after tetralogy, which tells of the development of humanity in the aftermath of the events recounted in the last book, and two short stories, "Remembering Sin" and "The Death of a Centaur."

There are many references that refer to the works of the Romantic poet John Keats, who wrote the poem "The Fall of Hyperion: A Dream" in 1819. References to Keats does not stop at the title, but there are many quotations from the poems of Keats, which are inserted in the pages of novels by Simmons, who goes so far as to give a prominent role to a character who is a replica of the artificial poet, a cybrid (a kind of hybrid with a cybernetic body, whose mind is an artificial intelligence replicating John Keats).

Hyperion is the name of the imaginary planet on which you perform most of the events described in the series. It is described as a planet of mass less than a fifth compared to Earth's, with plenty of unique flora and fauna, including the dangerous "Tesla trees" which are essentially large electrified trees. It is also one of the nine planets maze, hosting an ancient underground labyrinth from the purpose unknown. Its most important feature, however, is to be the place where you can find the "Tombs of Time", great monuments surrounded by fields "anti-entropic" that allow them to travel back in time. The region where the tombs is also the place of origin of the Shrike (also called the Lord of Sorrow), a terrifying creature from the apparent semi-divine powers which plays a key role in the novels. Hyperion is tectonically inactive, so there is no continental drift or significant electromagnetic fields (so that the compass does not work). In this, Hyperion is more like Mars than the Earth.

Le Trame:

1. Hyperion (1989).

Humans in 2700, thanks to the development of technology teleporter, move instantaneously in the galaxy, but a terrible experiment, the Big Mistake, caused the destruction of the Earth and the diaspora of man in space, thereby creating a new federation that unites all the inhabited worlds: the Hegemony of Man. On the eve of Armageddon, seven pilgrims face a last journey to Hyperion seeking the answers to the riddles of their lives. They are required to tell others about their history, to be known and show that he is a spy. The stories revolve around the seven worlds and difficulties that surround the space: the threat of Ouster, descendants of early settlers who do without technology, the role of the Church of the Shrike, feared by all. And in these stories, a dazzling beauty, is the key that would allow them to save humanity.

The seven pilgrims reached the Time Tombs of Hyperion and the presence of the Shrike, the battle rages around them and the forces between the Ouster Hegemony. John Keats, a machine built by human AIs has been recreated in which the consciousness of the poet, can find out where lies the core of their OS, but that is within the teleporter disturbing consequences: it should bring back the 'clock of human evolution, thus avoiding succumbing to the Intelligences through the destruction of the network on which the Hegemony. While Hegemony leaders are faced with a choice of life or death, the fate of pilgrims joined inexorably with that of all humanity.

3. Endymion.
300 years have passed and the universe is under the power of the Church of born-again Christians: his followers have become immortal due to a parasite, and those who do not convert will die. Raul Endymion accidentally kills a man during a hunting trip, to find themselves in a strange state between life and death. It is saved by one of the Hyperion pilgrims, Martin Silenus, and is so involved in the escape from the legions of young Aenea Pax, intending to destroy his messianic powers. Aenea, daughter of John Keats and the union of one of the pilgrims, flees with Endymion through various planets, coming into contact with different cultures and races. The girl will be the center of the battle between the Shrike and the clone Rhadamanth, sent by the AIs willing to do anything to erase the history of mankind.

4. Il risveglio di Endymion/The Rise of Endymion.
Anno 3131. Year 3131. The pilgrim father Lenar Hoyt, appointed Pope Urban XVI proclaims the final crusade against the renegades Ouster, moving against them the space fleet made available by Pax. Meanwhile, Aenea and all the new members struggling to destroy the Church of born-again Christians and restore the balance between life and death: men must not forget that the eternal existence is not suitable to their true nature. Those who are truly the Ouster and what are their purposes? And what is the actual function of the mysterious cruciform? And especially where ... or when the bloodthirsty Shrike? Questions that must be answered in order to save the universe and at the same time, the soul of a man.

1. Tutto su "La Donna Pioniere"/About "The Pioneer Woman":

" Howdy. I’m Ree Drummond, also known as The Pioneer Woman. I’m a moderately agoraphobic ranch wife and mother of four. Welcome to my frontier! I’m a middle child who grew up on the seventh fairway of a golf course in a corporate town. I was a teen angel. Not. After high school, I thought my horizons needed broadening. I attended college in California, then got a job and wore black pumps to work every day. I ate sushi and treated myself to pedicures on a semi-regular basis. I even kissed James Garner in an elevator once. I loved him deeply, despite the fact that our relationship only lasted 47 seconds. Unexpectedly, during a brief stay in my hometown, I met and fell in love with a rugged cowboy. Now I live in the middle of nowhere on a working cattle ranch. My days are spent wrangling children, chipping dried manure from boots, washing jeans, and making gravy. I have no idea how I got here…but you know what? I love it. Don’t tell anyone! I hope you enjoy my website, ThePioneerWoman.com. Here, I write daily about my long transition from spoiled city girl to domestic country wife. I love blogging. I love waking up, taking photos, and writing about what pops into my head as I continue chronicle this bizarre, beautiful, and often very weird journey I’m on. And I love you. Thank you for allowing me to share! Love, Ree
" Piacere. E io ti  voglio bene. The year is 1984 and the city is Tokyo. A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver’s enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 —“Q is for ‘question mark.’ A world that bears a question.” Meanwhile, an aspiring writer named Tengo takes on a suspect ghostwriting project. He becomes so wrapped up with the work and its unusual author that, soon, his previously placid life begins to come unraveled. As Aomame’s and Tengo’s narratives converge over the course of this single year, we learn of the profound and tangled connections that bind them ever closer: a beautiful, dyslexic teenage girl with a unique vision; a mysterious religious cult that instigated a shoot-out with the metropolitan police; a reclusive, wealthy dowager who runs a shelter for abused women; a hideously ugly private investigator; a mild-mannered yet ruthlessly efficient bodyguard; and a peculiarly insistent television-fee collector. A love story, a mystery, a fantasy, a novel of self-discovery, a dystopia to rival George Orwell’s—1Q84 is Haruki Murakami’s most ambitious undertaking yet: an instant best seller in his native Japan, and a tremendous feat of imagination from one of our most revered contemporary writers.

No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list. Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake-off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie. Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, warrior cloth as her brother: A fighter by nature, and a maverick when it comes to the traditional role of Chosen females, there is no place for her on the Far Side… and no role for her on the front lines of the war, either. When she suffers a paralyzing injury, human surgeon Dr. Manuel Manello is called in to treat her as only he can- and he soon gets sucked into her dangerous, secret world. Although he never before believed in things that go bump in the night- like vampires- he finds himself more than willing to be seduced by the powerful female who marks both his body and his soul. As the two find so much more than an erotic connection, the human and vampire worlds collide … just as a centuries old score catches up with Payne and puts both her love and her life in deadly jeopardy.

Chicago, 1920: Hadley Richardson is a quiet twenty-eight-year-old who has all but given up on love and happiness—until she meets Ernest Hemingway and her life changes forever. Following a whirlwind courtship and wedding, the pair set sail for Paris, where they become the golden couple in a lively and volatile group—the fabled “Lost Generation”—that includes Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, and F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. Though deeply in love, the Hemingways are ill-prepared for the hard-drinking and fast-living life of Jazz Age Paris, which hardly values traditional notions of family and monogamy. Surrounded by beautiful women and competing egos, Ernest struggles to find the voice that will earn him a place in history, pouring all the richness and intensity of his life with Hadley and their circle of friends into the novel that will become The Sun Also Rises. Hadley, meanwhile, strives to hold on to her sense of self as the demands of life with Ernest grow costly and her roles as wife, friend, and muse become more challenging. Despite their extraordinary bond, they eventually find themselves facing the ultimate crisis of their marriage—a deception that will lead to the unraveling of everything they’ve fought so hard for. A heartbreaking portrayal of love and torn loyalty, The Paris Wife is all the more poignant because we know that, in the end, Hemingway wrote that he would rather have died than fallen in love with anyone but Hadley.

Chicago 1920.

November 22nd, 1963 was a rapid-fire sequence of indelible moments: Shots ring out; a president slumped over; a race to the Dallas hospital; an announcement, blood still fresh on the First Lady's dress. But what if President John F. Kennedy didn't have to die; if somehow his assassin could have been thwarted? For Maine schoolteacher Jake Epping, those hypothetical what if's become real possibilities when he walks through a portal to the past. Without special skills and still unfamiliar with his new/old surroundings, he struggles to discover a way to change the history he left. Like its Under the Dome predecessor, Stephen King's 960-page novel shows that this master of suspense is back at the top of his game.

Billy Collins is widely acknowledged as a prominent player at the table of modern American poetry. And in this new collection,Horoscopes for the Dead, the verbal gifts that earned him the title “America’s most popular poet” are on full display. The poems here cover the usual but everlasting themes of love and loss, life and death, youth and aging, solitude and union. With simple diction and effortless turns of phrase, Collins is at once ironic and elegiac, as in the opening lines of the title poem:

Every morning since you disappeared for good,
I read about you in the newspaper
along with the box scores, the weather, and all the bad news.
Some days I am reminded that today
will not be a wildly romantic time for you . . .

And in this reflection on his own transience:

It doesn’t take much to remind me
what a mayfly I am,
what a soap bubble floating over the children’s party.
Standing under the bones of a dinosaur
in a museum does the trick every time
or confronting in a vitrine a rock from the moon.

Smart, lyrical, and not afraid to be funny, these new poems extend Collins’s reputation as a poet who occupies a special place in the consciousness of readers of poetry, including the many he has converted to the genre.
